AcSIR@AMPRI Bhopal is one of the finest place for the students who are willing to make their research dreams true in Material Science & Engineering, Physical Sciences and Chemical Sciences. It is situated in Madhya Pradesh, the Centre of India,in a beautiful place Bhopal, a city of lakes, rocks and rolls.Current NIRF ranking of AcSIR is 22nd under Research Institution of India.
CSIR-AMPRI is Known for its world class status in the area of advanced materials, processes and component development. The institute has highly qualified and experienced researchers and faculty, professionally trained in area of material science & engineering, synthetic & natural fiber based composites, smart & energy materials, cellular structural materials, additive manufacturing shielding materials etc.
CSIR-AMPRI is equipped with advanced characterization facilities such as Transmission Electron Microscopy(TEM), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy(FESEM), X-ray Diffraction, Raman Spectroscopy Microscopy, Thermogravimatric Analysis, Differential Scanning Calorimeter, Universal Tensile Testing machine, Weatherometer etc. Advanced processing faciliy includes Micro Compounder, Furnaces, Injection Molding, Centrifuges, 3D Printers, Hot Presses, Cryogenic Milling, CNC, well equipped/workshop, Electro Spinning, and so on.
More then 94 students are currently registered in PhD in different disciplines and working in advanced area of research. Material Science & Engineering, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences and Integrated Dual Degree Programs are being run at AMPRI Bhopal.
The Proposal of starting AcSIR activities in CSIR-AMPRI, Bhopal was initiated in November 2011 and Dr. Navin Chand, Chief Scientist was nomonated as first Coordinator by Dr. A.K Gupta, the then Director of CSIR-AMPRI, Bhopal. Dr. O.P Modi, Dr. B.K Prasad, Dr. Rupa Dasgupta, Dr. S.A.R Hashmi, Dr.D.P Mondal started drafting the Blue Print of AcSIR@AMPRI Study Centre.
Initially it was proposed to start PhD in Engineering Sciences in CSIR AMPRI in Material Science and Engineering. Acordingly different levels of courses were designed, considering the expertise and competency available in CSIR-AMPRI Bhopal. On 21/01/2013 Dr. B.K Prasad, Chief Scientist was nominated as Coordinator of AcSIR@AMPRI,Bhopal. A core committee was also formed to take care of responsibilities, such as course design, admission, class room facilities,time table, academic records, examination and evaluation and over all system development in AMPRI to run the academic activities in line with mendate of AcSIR@AMPRI, Bhopal. First Batch of students admitted in session Jan,2014 for PhD (Engineering) in Material Science and Engineering. PhD in Chemical Sciences started from August 2014 . Dr Rupa Dasgupta, Chief Scientist, was appointed as Coordinator on 1st Feb 2016. Integrated Dual Degree Programme in engineering was introduced from August 2018.
Dr S.A.R Hashmi, Chief Scientist, took over the charge of Coordinator AcSIR-AMPRI w.e.f 1st Oct 2018. During Covid 19 Pendemic, AcSIR-AMPRI was poineer to conduct online examination and to run online classes to provide safety to our students. The faculty and student contribute significantly in R&D input and management. Seminars, workshops, conferences, S&T exhibition are regularly conducted in CSIR-AMPRI and AcSIR students are the integral part of these events. These activities provide rich exposure to our students. PhD in Physical Science started from August 2019. Dr. Alka Mishra, Senior Scientist joined as Nodal Scientist to support AcSIR activities w.e.f 17th Oct 2018. Protocol officer Shri P.K Srivastava was also included in activities of AcSIR at AMPRI Bhopal to take care of various responsibilities related to fellowship regularisation etc.
Dr. Raju Khan took over the charge of Coordinator AcSIR-AMPRI w.e.f 1st July 2022. We have currently a faculty member as listed in all three disciplines.
